[REVIEW] ‘The King Raven Trilogy’ by Stephen Lawhead

King Raven AudioStephen Lawhead just might have been my favorite author during my teen years. I found his unique blend of mythic fantasy and historical fiction enthralling. Probably best known for his Pendragon Cycle, an original presentation of the Arthurian mythos, much of his writing is grounded in the history and mythology of the British isles that he moved to Oxford to study. [REVIEW] Thor: The Dark World, Pt. 2 – The Future of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe

thor-the-dark-world-movie-title-logo2Marvel’s capable if formulaic Thor: The Dark World (see Pt. 1 for my review proper) did prove noteworthy in at least one regard in that it offered its audience a peek behind the curtain at the studio’s future plans. What exactly does Marvel have up its sleeve? And does The Dark World have something fresh to say after all? Continue reading

[REVIEW] Thor: The Dark World, Pt. 1

thor-the-dark-world-movie-title-logo2**MILD SPOILER WARNING** I’ve gone out of my way to avoid revealing specific plot points in this write-up, but my review does include a level of information equivalent to that of a trailer or high level synopsis. [REVIEW] Fiasco, Pt. 3: Shakeup & Sign-Off

In this, the concluding segment of my extended look at Fiasco, I’ll detail the Tilt and the Aftermath, two special phases of the game that have a formative place in the overall narrative. I’ll also reveal the destiny of the not-so-endearing characters from my first game that were introduced in Pt. 1. While not strictly necessary, I’d recommend reading Pt. 1: Search & Setup and Pt. 2: Structure & Strategy before reading this one. The review was originally written as one large article, so this latest piece will reference ideas presented previously and is too narrowly focused to provide context for gameplay in toto. [REVIEW] Fiasco, Pt. 2: Structure & Strategy

This week, I continue my exploration of Fiasco with a closer look at actual gameplay. For an introduction to the game and the story my friends and I told with it (along with a brief survey of the hunt that led me to it), see Pt. 1: Search & Setup. Continue reading
